For over 40 years, Stewart Richey has been the cornerstone of construction and related services for South Central Kentucky and the surrounding region. Our diversified contracting, maintenance, and repair services function in teams across a variety of disciplines, providing a unified and seamless approach to achieving customer goals.  We accomplish this through two divisions:  

Contracting Group

The Stewart Richey Contracting Group assembles a team of customized subcontractor capabilities based on each project’s specific needs. We have the capacity and resources necessary to complete the project efficiently, safely, and to your satisfaction. We consider our team an extension of yours, giving you the convenience of a single source of subcontracting fulfillment.

Service Group

The Stewart Richey Service Group delivers maintenance and repair services for home or business through a staff of professional, trained technicians. Stewart Richey employees provide professional, courteous assistance while delivering unsurpassed service, whether they are performing a single repair or fulfilling a maintenance agreement.

 

History

In 1973 brothers-in-law Buster Stewart and Bill Richey launched Stewart Richey Construction, a small residential general contractor in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Their guiding philosophy was to provide customers with a quality product through dependable, timely performance.

Over the next 30 years, Stewart Richey Construction grew steadily while adding capabilities for virtually all construction trades, allowing better coordination and quality control among facets of a project. The company established a reputation   for meeting difficult deadlines and delivering high-quality work, while shifting its focus to commercial and industrial markets.            

In 2000, Stewart Richey was purchased by Houchens Industries, Inc., a Kentucky-based, diversified, employee-owned company.  The resources and stability provided by Houchens have enabled the company to continue to grow, while adding additional contracting and service capabilities.  

Today, Stewart Richey has transitioned its contracting capabilities from a self-perform general contractor focus to a subcontractor role, forming customized contracting groups to leverage its multiple capabilities in support of owners and general contractors. Additionally, Stewart Richey’s full array of post-construction maintenance and service options allow optimization of a facility’s life and operating costs.

Originally founded in 1917 by Ervin Houchens as a food store, Houchens Industries, Inc. is a diversified conglomerate wholly owned by its employee owners. News

On Thursday, June 26, 2018, Stewart Richey Construction received the honor of being named Kirby Building System’s 2017 Builder of the Year. Present from Stewart Richey to receive the award were former Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings manager, John Baird, current manager Bryan Carrico, Vice President Roddy Grimes, CFO Ryan Stokes, VPO Tim VanMeter, project manager Taylor Shoemake, and field supervisor Clay Nash. Stewart Richey also received a plaque recognizing over twenty four million dollars in total sales of custom engineered solutions from Kirby Building Systems. 

 

On July 12th, Stewart Richey hosted its first Educator Externship which had teachers that represented all Warren County high schools as well as Bowling Green High School in attendance.  Educators had the opportunity to immerse themselves in our business for a full day to gain a deeper understanding of what their students need to succeed in our industry.  During our day, they observed and interacted with many of our divisions and employees to learn about the academic and the employability skills needed to be successful in the world of work.

Stewart Richey's Service Group completed the DiSC Personality training that was held at Indian Hills Country Club.  We would like to congratulate all of the service group employees and our Dispatch Department for completing this program.

Having this training, provided everyone the opportunity to learn more about themselves. It gave them many insights as to why they think and respond in the ways that we do as well as understanding our customers better when making service calls.
